Have you heard it said that all the Fairbank(s) in America descend from the original immigrants, Jonathan and Grace Fairbanks from Sowerby, West Yorkshire, England? There are at least thirteen generations of Fairbank(s) in North America today. They descend from the six children. Some of the early families had many children, making the number of descendants multiply quickly. How many of those do you know?
Daniel Neff, the curator of the original 1637 Fairbanks House in Dedham, Massachusetts, https://fairbankshouse.org, says there are tens of thousands of Fairbanks in this country alone. Through the Fairbanks History website https://www.fairbankshistory.com/ I have met many from all over the country and even from Australia. They range from New England to California and Texas to Wisconsin and everywhere between.
Have you ever been to one of our national Fairbanks Family’s reunions at the Fairbanks house in Dedham? They have been held for 117 years. I attended for the first time this year and met relatives from all over the country. We shared our past and divergent histories. Walking through our historic home, the oldest frame house in North America, it reminded us of the toils and triumphs of our illustrious family and their desire to provide a lasting heritage for their progeny.
Unfortunately, no one can recall a reunion of the Prescott Family in Lancaster, MA. It would celebrate the founding family of the town, John and Mary Prescott. Perhaps it’s time to start a tradition. Reunions give us a sense of belonging and a feeling of family.
It’s difficult and can be expensive to attend a reunion held a distance from your home. So I am proposing an E-REUNION.
Our Family E-Reunions
On this site, there is a page where we can show our pride and support of the Fairbank(s) and Prescott families without traveling and spending our vacation money. No it will not take the place of those good old family gatherings, but it will give us a glimpse of our family members around the country. An E-Reunion will gather us together, those who are proud of our heritage and being part of these illustrious families. All you need to do is send in your name and indicate where you are generally located (even that is optional).
This is a free ongoing event. There are no obligations. No one has to prepare food or plan games and activities. Visiting the website, you will be able learn information about our family history. You can share your information or comments, too. Get a map out and keep track of where everyone is located. I will.
